    Nails: gel or dip powder?

    Advertisements
    Bored at work.............
I'm getting my nails done today and deciding if I should get gel or dip powder. I've never gotten either, and usually I prefer to do my own nails but I've gotten very lazy with it and I want the color to last longer.

Tell me all your thoughts/feels/advice on nails

Gel all the way. I have heard good things about the powder but overall from friends who have tried powder, it seems like it's not worth the extra upgrade. Down here it ranges from $8-10 extra and doesn't last much longer than gel. Plus a lot of salons don't put the powder into a separate jar when you dip your finger, so you're putting your fingers into the same thing that other ladies have... I'm a germaphobe and that thought alone is enough to turn me off of it!

I get my nails done with the gel and love it. The polish lasts for up to three weeks for me without chipping. The downside is it can be hard on your nails compared to regular polish. When the polish comes off the top layer of the nail wants to go with it, especially if you are someone who picks at their nails. I haven't tried the dip powder.

Gel all the way! I have done dips before, I wasn't a fan. It didn't last long at all for me and like KittenMittens said, they don't usually separate the jars

I did dips once and went straight back to gel

I've done gel once and really liked it. It lasted a good amount of time. But like stated above, it can be rough on your nails. I have a friend who religiously gets her nails done. Always gel. Every now and then she'll go in just to have the gel taken off and put a clear coat on to allow her nails to breathe. After mine came off I just but a clear coat of strengthening polish on. My nails were a bit fragile so I made sure not to use my nails for anything rough that could easily rip/tear them.

Yeah, forgot to mention this, definitely used to get my nails done religiously every 3-4 weeks with gel. It never chipped or had any problems, but now I've gone about 2 months without a mani and my nails are so strong!! Def get that clear coat every few months to let them breathe.
