Is this dress appropriate for the AF ball? I've never been but we're going this year!

Thanks! the theme is 1940s but I couldn't find anything here that would be 40s era and still appropriate. I've always known to ear closed toed shoes in professional settings but what about the ball? I'm starting to get nervous since I haveno clue what to do lol.

Closed toed shoes are definitely not required. This is a formal setting, not a professional one (in the sense of dress codes).

Also, at the balls and cocktail-attire events we've been to that had a theme, I'd say less than 25% of the women dressed to the theme. Or they would wear a typical gown and then throw on a super long strand of costume pearls (for 40s), or a 40's looking hair ornament, or something like that, as a nod to the theme without fully dressing to the theme.
