How long is too long for nails?

I thought about this today because it came up at work! Some of us are in disagreement about when nails become unprofessional and I was wondering what ya'll thought.

Just for reference the nails we were talking about are about this long:

I think those are awfully long for work but I work in a conservative industry and I"m also germophobic so those nails kind of skeeve me out anyway. But do you think those should be cut for office work?

(Also reminds me of a lady raising holy hell at work because her nails were so long she couldn't use the fingerprint scanner ... management was not budging on that one lol).

That is grossly long in my opinion. I'm not a fan of being able to see much more than the tips of my nails when I face my palms towards me. I'm just not a fan of long fingernails.

I don't understand how she could get any work done.

When I get fake nails, I get them very short and I still have a hard time

    It reminds me of:

ETA: HOW THE CRAP DO PEOPLE GO TO THE BATHROOM WITH LONG NAILS LIKE THAT?! Aren't they worried about hurting themselves!?

I always wonder about the mechanics of things with nails that long as well!

She can still type pretty fast but it makes a huge racket when she does it. Someone asked her how she changed diapers without clawing her baby too!

Same! I hate having long nails. When I used to get fake ones I had to tell the ladies like 19 times to make them shorter. They thought I was nuts

I'm in the camp of anything longer than the tip of my own fingers being too long but those are ridiculously long and definitely not really professional. My mom thinks I'm nuts because I'm constantly filing and clipping all my nails down but I can't stand it when I have them too long, especially with an infant in the house again! I'm terrified I'm gonna scratch him at night or during a diaper change.

Personal preference, too long. If the company doesn't have a policy on dress and grooming......there's not much that can be done. The racket with the typing would drive me MAD.

That's too long and gross. I don't think functionality is surprising though, people learn to live with all sorts of modifications (/disabilities) that are more extreme than long nails.

Also, and this is going to sound creepy, that ladies hands look exactly like how they lay people's hands in caskets.

    See, creepy I told ya.
