    USAA and ATM fees?

    Advertisements
So I know this is sad, but we have been with USAA for about a year and this is the first time I have had to use an ATM to get $$$. How does the fee reimbursement thing work? I got out X amount and was charged $1.50 service fee from the ATM I used (a local credit union). The ATM withdraw has come up on my account, but not the ATM fee credit.

Do I need to request the fee reimbursement or will USAA do that automatically?

    Thanks!

ATM fee credits normally get funded the next month or something like that... its I believe up to a total of 15 dollars they will refund a month. I THINK... we use ATMs all the time but just know we get credited back.

    From their website

You can also use any ATM worldwide and get automatic refunds up to $15 a month in fees the other banks charge to use their ATMs. To check your account balances, transfer funds and more 24/7, access usaa.com or mobile.usaa.com.

Be careful what ATM's you use though... we've gotten stuck paying a few times because they add the fee into what we take out instead of making it separate.

So this seems to be what happened to us. Is there any recourse we can seek to have the fees reimbursed? Also, any input to which banks/ATMs routinely mask fees in this way so this doesn't continue to happen?

Final question, I travel internationally for my job. Of course, when you use an ATM internationally, you receive back local currency. Does USAA return the ATM fees from international locations as well?

    TIA!

USAA will take care of it--once per month you will be reimbursed up to a total of $15--which sounds like more than you'll need!!
