    Effing Taxes...

    Advertisements
I don't understand why every single year since I was 16, I owe $600+ in fed taxes every year...
The years I have been employed I have them take the maximum taxes out of my checks.
    Yet I STILL owe $600...

We even went to H&R block last year, and they were like, yeah it makes sense.
This year, I'm married and made SURE they were taking the max taxes out STILL owe! I don't get it =[

Has anybody else always owe this much?
Or maybe know why I might keep owing?

I tried it online first, just to get an estimate, and did not get the result I was expecting. =\
DH and I are trying to figure out if we go to H&R will it cost us more then they might make back for us. Because if they can't fix the $600+ I owe, I don't want to pay them another $100+ just for them to tell me that =[

Yeah I understand. It's a tough decision because online you may not be aware of all the deductions you can claim but then shelling out $100 for the same result is not worth it.
I hope you get it all worked out and hopefully don't owe!

Do you have deductions and all that sort of stuff (or a schedule c or many 1099s)? If not even with two incomes a basic 1040 should do the job and you can go to many of the places that efile basic tax returns for free to see if they all come up with the info. If I lived near you I would be willing to help. I have been filing our taxes since we married and this years was much harder with a new business and such added in.

I am thinking though something is not being done right that you have to pay in every year if you have your withholdings set to the highest.

IF you do that, make sure you ask for someone who is not newly trained. They get basic training and that is it.

I feel if my taxes are going to be screwed up I would rather do them myself. I feel the same about going to the temp offices of say H&R and the like.

I feel your pain, DH and I also owe but it is way more than $600. The only time DH and I haven't owed is when we owned a house, then we broke even.
