First-time credit card late fee question?

I have an American Eagle credit card (not the new American Eagle Visa card, but the old plain AE credit card..).. anyway, I just signed onto my account online, and realized that I missed my payment by ONE day.

The payment was due on 10/4/09. I immediately paid the minimum balance today (the 5th) when I noticed.. but I was already charged a $29 late fee. So I have two questions.. 1) is this going to hurt my credit score? and 2) since this was my first offense, do you think I have any chance of calling the company and getting out of the fee?

I'm also mad because the payment was due on a Sunday.. aren't you able to pay the bill on the following Monday if the due date falls on a Sunday?

Call! They'll most likely waive your fee. Explain your confusion and that you've always paid on time.

I've never heard that you can pay late if the date lands on a sunday. The due date is the due date. It shouldn't hurt your credit, though.

I just called and explained that I've been a loyal customer for the past few years and I've never missed a payment before.. she waived the fee with no other questions asked. Yay

I will never do that again!!
