Apartment Application questions! HELP! - Ask Rich / Money 101

So, I am filling out an application for an apartment in LA.
They ask for your bank account number as well as credit card numbers and how much you pay each month.
My questions are:
Can the apartment manager look into my checking account and see how much money I have?
Also, how much does it matter if you have a job or not?

they dont look in to your account they just want to know how much you have in it. and it does matter if you have a job or not because they want to know if you can pay the rent.

No, they cannot access your account information. I believe the number allows them to verify the validity of the account, that it exists, but that is it.

We had to bring a copy of DH's LES and his pay had to be at least 3x the rent.

no one can access your account except you. Giving them the number allows them to ensure that you do have a checking/savings account. and aren't defrauding them. The job thing is to ensure you have means to pay the rent. They usually like for your pay to be 3x the rent so they know you have enough funds to pay rent.

since i dont have a job right now because im interviewing/applying/weighing my options on the jobs ive gotten offered in LA (moving from Arizona) i'm just putting previous employers and my pay from them. hope that works.

But, if youre getting BAH I think that would be enough and you wouldnt have to make 3x the rent.

If that was the case here then we would have NEVER been able to get an apartment in oceanside while we waited for housing.

when i moved from washington to 29 palms, i used the BAH as my income... that was the only way I was able to move down there without having to wait for housing.
