My husband and I are both 18. Right now we only have one car (mine), because a while back he totaled his (it wasnt a bad accident, its just that the airbags deployed and the car was a piece of crap, so the amount it would cost to buy new airbags was more than how much the car was worth
) and he has been in training for the past 6 months so he wasn't allowed to have one anyway. Well, in a few weeks he'll be done with training and we'll be on our way to our first duty station, where he will definitly need a car. What i'm worried about is car insurance. Two eighteen year old full time drivers is going to be REDICULOUSLY expensive and i don't really know how we'll afford it. ![]() We were thinking of maybe adding dh onto my parents car insurance (which i am currently already on) and reimbursing them every month. But then we also considered getting our own plan with USAA. Any opinions? |

When I first got DH and Mine I had just turned 20 and he was 21. We go through USAA. for our cars (two) and renters insurance we pay about $170 a month and thats including insurance on my jewelry. We did have to pay the first 6 months in advance which is pretty common for first time insurance users. Its not so much age as it is never having insurance before. I would just call around and get quotes.

![]() Ours went down more then half when we were married. OP, I think you should go with USAA. They will serve you well and will follow you anywhere you may get stationed, including overseas. |

BTW, my insurance with them is $120 a month. But we just went into the "old and married category" (over 25).
