So DB joined the Marines months ago, but just recently went to basic. Just a question about seperation- is it 4 years from when he initially signed or after he graduates. I heard a few different things and I'm just looking for clarification.

I'm just curious... one of my friends is in the AF and told me it was from when he signed his initial papers. She also only lasted in the AF for 1.5 years and I know different branches do everything differently.

    Jayo,

Are you sure? My TIS was computed on the day I left for bootcamp, 2 Sept 1985. I couldn't even tell you the day I graduated from boot. I think the ticker starts the day you swear in and report to boot. Also my pay raises were based on my entry date of 2 Sep 85.

Per his MyPay DH's enlistment date is 30 Dec 2008 when he signed his papers and took his oath and his ETS date is 28 Dec 2016, it just recently changed from 2012 to 2016 when he commissioned but the Dec date has stayed the same. He didn't go to BCT until June 2009.

This is how the Army does it too. Time in Service (TIS) started the day he entered basic. Time in Grade (TIG) started the day he graduated.
