DF is getting out of the Navy really soon. He doesn't have a job lined up yet, so my question is this, Can he collect unemployment and be in school full time?

He looks young in the picture so I am assuming he is not "retiring" and won't receive pension, right? That will impact the answer.....

I honestly think it depends on the state he is in. I know when my friend came home, he was able to but he wasn't in school..but that is in Indiana. Good luck to your SO!

No, not retiring. He has been in 6 years.

If he is going to be using his GI Bill, then my guess is no, because he will still be getting BAH equivalent to an E5, which is basically income.

And since he is getting out, he won't qualify for unemployment because he is voluntarily quitting (meaning the navy isn't making him get out, he simply didn't extend his employment, he volunteered to end it).

Even a forced discharged doesn't qualify someone for unemployment.

My DH collected unemployment for a year after voluntarily getting out (FL). And he was told that he could still collect while going to school..... IDK, depends on the state, I guess

There is a lot of information available and it will vary from one state to the next. I would suggest he contact the office for the state through which he would be filing for a direct answer. It is, however, possible for a member to draw UI after separation from the military in many situations.
