each case is different and how he is discharged will determine what you will get- until you know his seperation code- it will be hard to give exact information.

I am sorry your going thru this

As others have said, it depends on if he is:

    * Medically separated (Physical Evaluation Board (PEB) assigns a combined disability rating of less than 30%) - Servicemember will receive a lump sum payment only.

    * Disability retirement (PEB assigns a combined disability rating of 30% or more) - Servicemember is given disability retirement. Disability retirement entitles Veterans to monthly disability payments, and free military health care for Veteran, spouse, and children.

From there, the PEB also determines whether retirement should be permanent or temporary, i.e., whether the Vet should be put on Permanent Disability Retirement or Temporary Disability Retired List.

(I am a paralegal and I volunteer with attorneys at work for our pro bono program, assisting Vets with CRSC - Combat Related Special Compensation, an additional benefit offered to Vets who have been medically retired.)

His dr told us it's medical retirement. BUT, I've been told you don't know whether it's retirement or not until all the findings come in.

It's been a very long 2 year process that is get tiring and confusing. (it all started when he was deployed and sent home early some of you may remember my posts about it)

    Thanks for the help!

We are at the beginning of this process for DB's PTSD. It is already frustrating and tiring and we are only 5 months in. If you need anything PM me!!!
